Location Description
Cornwall’s Cotton Mill District features a series of 19th century industrial buildings that have been redeveloped into a mix of condos and professional office space while incorporating the area’s rich architectural components wherever possible. It resembles a small-scale Toronto Distillery District. One of the key buildings is the Weave Shed, Canada’s first industrial facility to be electrically lighted in 1883 by Thomas Edison. Today, the building is home to professional offices, radio stations and a bistro/café called The Stomping Grounds. The café features exposed beams and hardwood floors and leads on to a terrace featuring original elements from the mill era. The district is immediately north of a locally-owned harbour that is deep enough to service deep-sea vessels.
